A governor for the main unit turbine. This replaced an older flyball-weight governor that used to live under the deck. This machine senses the RPM of the runner (turbine wheel) and sends signals to a pair of hydraulic cylinders to open or close the throttle vanes, thus keepinf the speed of the wheel and generator correct to make 60Hz power. I like flyball governors as much as the next man, but you cannot beat electronic controls for accuracy and stability. Voith is a reputable German maker of Kraftwerkstechnik, er.. controls for hydro power.
