NCO Creed
The Chain of Command and the NCO Support Channel
-
There is but one chain of command in the army. It is parallel to and
reinforced by the NCO support channel. Both are channels of communication
used to pass information. In order for the chain of command to function,
the NCO support channel must be operating and vice versa.
Duties and Responsibilities
-
As an NCO you have duties and responsibilities.
-
Webster’s definition of duty:
- Du·ty ( d›“t¶, dy ›“-) n. Pl. Du·ties 1. An act or a course of
action that is required of one by position, social custom, law, or religion:
do your duty to your country. 2. A. Moral obligation: acting out of duty.
B. The compulsion felt to meet such obligation.
Military’s Definition of Duty:
-
A duty is a legal or moral obligation to do what should be done without
being told to do it. Duty means accomplishing all assigned tasks to the best
of your ability.
-
A duty is something you must do because of the position you hold.
An NCO's Duties Include:
-
Take care of your soldiers
- Develop a genuine concern for their well-being.
-
Train your soldiers
- Develop trained soldiers who have discipline, are physically strong,
mentally tough, and highly motivated.
Responsibility
-
Responsibility means you are accountable for what you personally
do or fail to do.
-
NCOs are responsible to fulfill not only their individual duties,
but also to see that their soldiers do their missions well
-
Any duty you have because of the position you hold in a unit includes
a responsibility to do that duty.
Responsibility
-
As an NCO, you are accountable for your personal conduct and that
of your soldiers.
-
Also, each soldier is responsible for his own personal conduct and
this individual responsibility can not be delegated.
I WILL NOT FORGET, NOR WILL I ALLOW MY COMRADES TO FORGET, THAT WE ARE
PROFESSIONALS, NONCOMMISSIONED OFFICERS, LEADERS!
