Repair of a Medium Sized Variable Transformer ("Variac")

NOTE: This is a Standard Electrical Products Co. Adjust-A-Volt Variable Transformer model 1500B-2 made in Dayton, Ohio. "Variac" is a trademark of STACO for their line of variable transformers. Like the term "Kleenex", the term "variac" has come into comon but incorrect use to describe any number of variable transformer makes.

The transformer had been dropped resulting in a broken casting and shattered coil mount insulators. Most people would have scrapped it at this point, but I decided to repair it. It took about 5 hours of work. I didn;t do it because I couldn't afford a nerw one, I did it because I can, and because I like to repair things. This variable transformer is a few decades old yet has little mechanical or electrical wear. It was made with good American quality. It's well worth the effort to repair it. Here is the detail of the work.
