The transformer had been dropped resulting in a broken casting and shattered coil mount insulators. Most people would have scrapped it at this point, but I decided to repair it. It took about 5 hours of work. I didn;t do it because I couldn't afford a nerw one, I did it because I can, and because I like to repair things. This variable transformer is a few decades old yet has little mechanical or electrical wear. It was made with good American quality. It's well worth the effort to repair it.
