The ACOM 1000 HF Linear Amplifier uses a 4CX800A (GU74B) and it's claimed there is no mode limit at 1000W CW or PEP output. The transformer looked small, but that opinion is from experience with old low-tech transformers of the past that tended to be very weighty. I could see this one comfortably handling the 1800-2000W input necessary for the stated output. The amp seemed very well built. It's grid-driven. I'd take it over an Ameritron (MFJ) or the like. I think Acom could give the pricey boys a run for their money.
I do not care for software-managed amplifier control functions that seem to be standard on all good factory-made amps today, but instead I prefer simple and unrestrictive/hackable hardware controls. For this reason I build, or I buy military surplus gear.
