Here the true size of the crane is shown. The crane also dates back to the 1930's when the dam was built. making this job more complex is that the crane is being overhauled as well, so that the controller is expecting the new motors, but the old motors are still in place. Therefore the brake was not behaving properly, and a man was stationed atop the crane to manually engage the brake if it did not hold properly by itself.
In the center image, the top of the heat exchanger housing that supplies cooling air for the generator itself can be seen.
