Since the 1KW DC input rule is abolished and a 1500W PEP output rule applies now to AM, calculations have shown that the HV transformers are best operated at 3000VAC rather than 3.5KVAC or more. The limit would be 3.5KVAC in any case as the modulator tubes are rated for 3000VDC maximum.
As can be seen, more capacitance and inductance is made available for the rebuild. Since the current required by either the modulator or PA is no more than about 400mA , the filter chokes which were originally paralleled will be put in series, doubling the inductance, but still maintaining enough current capacity.
Additionally, the bank of two 2uF/6KV capacitors in parallel for 4uF will be replaced with a bank of five more modern 8uF/4KV units in parallel for 40uF.
This would not be as desireable if the old 1KW DC rule were in effect as the voltages would be higher and the PEP output would be more like 2800W, but the other side of the coin is that running lower voltages on the rare old modulation iron certainly won't harm anything either.
